SPAGHETTI PULL JELLO ACTIVITY

COLORFUL SPAGHETTI PULL

Here’s another activity you could do with colored spaghetti! If you don’t already know how to make colored spaghetti, check out this previous DIY post on the recipe and how to do it.

I did this sensory activity with Nicky when she was under two and have done it several times since. It’s always been a hit, even as she got older.

This at home activity is one of many examples of sensory play that exposed Nicky to different textures, which in turn helped with her eating habits. With Emma, it was a little different. She ate everything!! And when I say everything I do mean everything. So even though Emma had no trouble eating, she still LOVED this sensory activity! Good thing it is taste safe, because you know she tried to eat it too!

Even though it is all taste safe materials and a good activity for babies, make sure you are supervising VERY closely. Taste safe does not mean edible. And that is one of the main reasons I prefer to use clear gelatin instead of yummy JELLO so that once they do try it, they won’t want to eat it again!

MATERIALS:

  1. Spaghetti

  2. Salt

  3. Oil

  4. Food coloring

  5. Clear Gelatin

  6. Parchment Paper

  7. Bowl

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Make colored spaghetti. Check out recipe post

  2. Depending on the jell-o that you buy (I used brand Knox, 1oz box), follow the instructions on the box to make the gelatin.

  3. Place parchment paper inside the bowl as a liner and pour in gelatin mixture.

  4. Add in colored pasta. Leave some pasta ends out for pulling later. Refrigerate 4 hours.

  5. Once the gelatin sets, lift the parchment paper up releasing the gelatin from the bowl. Remove parchment paper from gelatin and set on a flat surface.

  6. Let our child explore!
