Before we get into the tips, we have to answer one crucial question… does Play-Doh even come out of clothes? Fortunately, the answer is YES! You absolutely can remove Play-Doh from clothing

The trick is to act swiftly and follow the right steps. The quicker you can treat the problem, the easier it will be to pretend like it never happened which is what we all want, right? There are also a few other factors you need to consider, like the type of fabric you’re working with, how much Play-Doh is on the clothing, and which methods will work best to clean it.

But, with the right approach, you can get your clothes looking good as new in no time!

  • Step 1: Act quickly. The sooner you address the Play-Doh, the better your chances are of removing it. You don’t want to give it excess time to sit and soak into the fabric.

  • Step 2: Scrape off any excess Play-Doh. Use a plastic scraper, spoon, butterknife, or old credit card (there are plenty of options here!) to gently lift off as much of the Play-Doh as possible. Be careful, though; you don’t want to rub it in any further!

  • Step 3: Rinse the area. Before tackling the stain, turn the fabric inside out and rinse the area with cold water. This will help loosen any leftover stubborn dough!

  • Step 4: Pre-treat the stain. Pre-treating the area with dish soap is key to success here. Gently rub a small amount of dish soap onto the area and give it time to break down all that leftover oil and residue. 15-20 minutes should do the trick!

  • Step 5: Gently scrub. Use a soft-bristled brush or an old cloth to scrub the area gently. Don’t use too much elbow grease; otherwise, you risk damaging the fabric.

  • Step 6: Wash as usual. Throw your clothing into the laundry and wash as normal. If the stain is still there after washing, repeat as necessary.

With every stain, I always recommend Miss Mouth’s Stain Remover it is seriously a lifesaver! Whether you’re dealing with play-doh, slime, food, or one of the other many stains that come with parenthood, it’s a great product to have up your sleeve.
