RAINBOW CLOUD DIY
RAINBOW CLOUD IN A JAR
A fun at home science experiment for kids! This activity for your little ones is great to introduce them to the water cycle and explain how and why it rains. And of course added the rainbow theme because there is always a rainbow after a big thunderstorm. I mean, what better way to learn about the water cycle than with water, clouds, and rainbows combined?!
What I love about this specific how to video, is that you can see Nicky’s reaction and playfulness while doing this experiment. She even tries to make it more challenging by closing her eyes while using the dropper. I love watching her interact with the activities on her own and see what she comes up with next.
MATERIALS:
Water
1 large Bowl and a few smaller ones
INSTRUCTIONS:
Fill the large bowl 3/4 of the way up with tap water.
Finish filling the bowl with shaving cream to imitate floating clouds.
Add a couple of food coloring drops to a bit of water in the separate smaller bowls. Repeat with a different color for each small bowl.
Using a large syringe or the dropper, have the child transfer the colored water to the shaving cream cloud.
As you add more water to the “cloud” you’ll start to see the water underneath turn different colors.
This activity can be used as a science experiment to explain the water cycle, as a fine motor skills practice and as a color mixing activity. The most important part is that our little ones will never know they are learning through play!
