LETTER POSTING BOX DIY

DRY ERASE POSTING BOX DIY

I love making at home activities for kids that help them learn the alphabet while playing. This kid friendly DIY, besides helping kids practice their upper case and lower case letters, also works as a motor skills activity. The gesture of picking up the item, opening the lid, putting something inside, and closing the lid is fun in itself and serves for great motor skills practice for both toddlers and babies.

If you have a baby at home, and want to make this a baby stage activity, grab a cardboard box and paste a baby wipes lip with hot glue on to it. Make a hole in the center and your little one can insert anything. Watch their little surprised face as the items reappear when you take them out of the box.

For full grown kids, make it a little more challenging with letters. I made this box for Nicky when she was almost 5 as a capital and lowercase alphabet match. She loves the dry erase part the most! Just follow the instructions below and you got yourself a DIY posting box!

MATERIALS:

  1. Plastic box

  2. Reuse disposable wipes case

  3. Hot glue

  4. Dry erase markers

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Remove the lid from the disposable wipes case.

  2. Use the hot glue to glue it to the plastic box. Make sure the hot glue cools a bit before pressing it onto the box. The heat could melt into the plastic.

  3. Open the lid and make a hole in the center of the opening. Use the hot glue machine to make the hole. Do not actually press any glue just use the heat of the tip to make a hole.

  4. Write a letter, number, color, etc on the box using the dry erase marker.

An additional tip, if making with a cardboard box, put a piece of clear tape on the box and that will be your dry erase area.
