COTTON BALL FLOWERS ACTIVITY
COTTON BALL FLOWERS ACTIVITY
This blog has arrived just in time to welcome one of my favorite times of the year, springtime! Who’s as excited as I am?
I like to use spring as the perfect excuse to make all those flower themed activities and DIYs for our little ones! It is the perfect way to get into the spring spirit and also enjoy some time with your little ones.
I really love this spring arts and crafts idea because it involves cotton balls which makes it so much different from other flower activities. It makes it so much more fun than just painting flowers directly on paper. Plus, they absorb a lot of water which means the activity lasts a long time. There’s nothing better than setting something up in under 5 minutes and it keeping your little ones engaged for a long period of time!
Who’s with me on that one? Now all I can picture is you guys making 500 flowers in a row! Don’t worry, if you need more help keeping your children engaged, my Mothercould In Your Pocket resource and Mothercould blog can help with that! They are both full of activities, fun, and endless hours of entertainment, and the resource allows you exclusive access to a vault of activities you can’t find on the website.
Without further ado, let’s dive in and create something beautiful!
MATERIALS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add a bit of glue to the paper.
Use the cotton balls to make a flower shape on the paper that was glued. I used 1 for the center and 6 for the petals.
Mix water with a few drops of food coloring.
Using the dropper, color in the flower.
Once done, use the marker to draw stems.
Cotton balls crafts
Color absorbing cotton rainbow
This craft ticks ALL of my boxes. It is bright, educational, and above all, fun! This wonderful craft was created by a good friend of mine, and I think it is great. It is also super easy to make with things you already have at home.
All you need is some paper, a glue stick, cotton balls, water, food coloring, and a dropper. Then you can make your lovely rainbow outline, mix the food coloring with the water, and watch as your little ones’ eyes light up with awe!
Magic milk science experiment
While this isn’t really a ‘craft’ I had to mention it because it always makes my children excited. This cool science experiment is an awesome way to get kids involved. It helps them learn about primary colors and how to make new colors from them. It’s also a great way to use up expired milk or milk that is about to expire so it isn’t wasted.
All you need is full fat milk, food coloring, dish soap, and q-tips or cotton balls. All you need to do is add milk to your bowl, drop in some colors, and get your child to dip the q-tip or cotton ball in dish soap, tap the milk, and watch the colors swirl! Then you can get your child to use the q-tip to make new colors.
Cotton Ball Animals
Who doesn’t want to make cute, fluffy animals out of cotton balls? This craft is simple but is also a wonderful activity for children, offering both creativity and developmental benefits. I like this craft because it helps little ones dive into imaginative play and helps to foster creativity.
You just need your trusty cotton balls, a piece of card or cardboard, and glue for the base. The rest is up to you, but I usually use googly eyes, pom poms, and colored paper to make the nose, eyes, and ears for the animal. You can make sheep, bunnies, chicks, or anything your little one can imagine!
Set imagination free with these cotton balls crafts!
This at-home activity for kids is not only great to keep them entertained, but it also serves as practice for essential skills such as motor skills. You can also use this sensory activity to introduce a quick lesson on seasons and what happens to flowers during the springtime. And most importantly, for your little ones to have fun while they learn! For more awesome activities, don’t forget to check out my resource and the Mothercould blog!
