FUN COMPUTER DIY ACTIVITY FOR KIDS

FUN COMPUTER DIY ACTIVITY FOR KIDS

Are your kids obsessed with your computer? Do they try to press buttons and pull on the screen every single time you try to do something important? If so, I honestly feel your pain.

I can’t work on mine when I’m around my girls. All they do is fight to get their little fingers on the keyboard. Now my laptop is full of finger smudges, drool, and whatever food item they had in their hands the last time they fought to touch it. I’m pretty over cleaning it all the time. But can you blame them? Laptops are COOL!

What they like most about the keyboards is the feeling of pushing the buttons, and funnel enough, large bubble wrap kind of has that same effect that they are searching for. That is why I created this super awesome DIY computer for kids! It is SO fun to see how while they play and use their imagination they also develop essential fine motor skills.

Making these toys is a great way to reuse packing materials and create a fun, open-ended toy without spending any money! The large bubbles made for the best keyboard buttons, but you can use some smaller bubble wrap for more in-depth and calculated typing movements. Who would’ve thought bubble wrap had a larger life span than just popping them? Not saying that you can’t do just that afterwards! Because, even as an adult, I find it SUPER fun!

You can even turn this activity into a spelling one by asking your toddlers to press specific letters and numbers. Not only will they practice letters, but also learn some computer skills! Honestly, this activity is just the best and SO educational. I couldn’t live without it in my toolkit, because my kids absolutely love it.

How To Make A PC Out Of Cardboard

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Using a permanent marker write the numbers and letters on the bubble wrap as it appears on a keyboard.

  2. Insert some styrofoam into the box until you achieve the desired height for the bubble wrap keyboard.

  3. Use the glue to secure the keyboard onto the styrofoam.

  4. Add some aluminum foil as the screen and that’s it.

DIY Computer Activities For Kids

alphabet game

I like to play a fun alphabet/letter recognition activity with my little ones on their DIY computer. Try to speak random letters of the alphabet, not in order, and see if your little one can point to that letter on the bubble keyword. Try it with every single letter until you have gone through the whole alphabet. If your little one is only just learning, try to do it in order to help them and not confuse them. This can help to greatly develop your child’s letter recognition skills.

spelling activity

Help your little one spell words that are a little harder for them. You can assist them from the start or just be there when they need a hand. You can either write down the word and get them to match the letters to the keyboard, or spell them out loud and have your little one find the letters on the keyboard.

spelling bee

Um, who doesn't love a spelling bee? This can be super educational, insightful, and fun for your child. It combines hands-on learning with interactive fun, making the process of mastering spelling FUN! By using a visual approach to their spelling bee, you can make it so much easier for your child, and align this activity with their development. Just like a typical spelling bee, say word out loud to your child and then get them to either spell the words out, out loud, and then type them, or just type them as you watch.

spell your name

Your child being able to spell their name is very important. So, if you have the chance, get them to type their name out on their DIY computer. Make sure you’re there to help them and make it an enjoyable experience.

alphabet song

Similar to the first activity, sing the alphabet song slowly and help your little one follow along on the keyboard. To add a new layer of complexity, get them to sing it to themselves and press the letters in order. This can help your child learn in various ways and stimulate their brain.

ENJOY THIS FUN COMPUTER ACTIVITY WITH YOUR LITTLE ONES

I just love this activity for my little ones, and I think you will too! This activity is not just fun to create with your child, but there are also SO many activities you can enjoy with it afterwards. I really like all the things it taught my kids, and I hope it helps your children too. I am all about helping children learn and stimulating them to align with their developmental needs.
