COLOR WHEEL DIY
PRIMARY COLOR WHEEL DIY FOR KIDS
Am I the only one that gets super excited when encountering the school supply aisle while out shopping? I just can’t help myself! This time I found some colorful page separators and I had to grab them. You know, for no particular reason. Had a 100 pack of paper fasteners and I knew the two would be a perfect pairing. Seriously, I always know when something is going to come in handy later.
And indeed, it DID come in handy and it WAS a perfect pairing. I singlehandedly created an easy to make, at home educational activity for the little ones. This primary color wheel DIY is perfect for practicing colors and how to make new colors out of primary ones. In fact, I think it is one of my favourite art projects yet. I definitely believe it would make a great tool for playing at home and for classrooms as well.
MATERIALS:
Red, yellow, and blue plastic dividers
Round bowl
INSTRUCTIONS:
Use the bowl to trace a circle on each of the colored plastic dividers.
Cut the circles out carefully.
Make a dot in the center of each circle. You can use a ruler to help you find the perfect center of each circle.
Cut a tiny slot right on the dot in the center of her circle.
Use a ruler to mark three inches on the edge of each circle. Cut off a piece in the form of a triangle but don’t cut all the way to the center. Stop about half an inch away from the center.
Color Wheel Game
Want to know what games you can play with your little ones with the help of this great color wheel? Find out below!
Color Recognition Game
Get your little one to help you gather a few different objects or cards with different colors. Have your child move the wheel and match the color to the corresponding object or card.
Color Mixing
Use primary color cards or objects (red, blue, yellow) and let your child spin the wheel to figure out which two primary colors they can mix. For example, if the wheel lands on red and yellow, encourage them to mix these colors with paint colors to make orange, a secondary color. Helping them learn with mixed colors is an engaging way to boost their color knowledge.
Color Theory
Use the color wheel to teach your little one basic color theory concepts like complementary colors (colors opposite to each other on the wheel), primary colors (red, blue, yellow), and secondary colors (orange, green, purple).
Nature Hunt
Take your wheel out in nature and go on a nature hunt. Move the wheel and then look for objects in nature that match the color shown. This can be leaves, flower, rocks, or anything else colorful.
Quiz Game
Create simple quiz questions relating to colors and use the color wheel to determine the right answers. For example, ask your little one which color they get from mixing blue and yellow.
Enjoy color learning fun with your sweet little one!
This project is perfect for helping your little ones figure out colors. You can even ask your little ones to make a specific color out of the ones provided in the color wheel to help their skills grow. Watch them figure out which colors make new ones and their little faces light up when they create colors!
When I tried this with my little ones, they absolutely loved it. They felt such a great sense of pride in themselves. I think it is a great activity to boost morale.
