COLOR MIXING SENSORY BAGS

COLOR MIXING SENSORY BAGS

So in case you did not already know, I will introduce myself. My name is Myriam and I have a sensory bag addition. Haha I assume you already knew this about me as it is evident from all my sensory bag activities, but, hear me out…they are just too amazing! Sensory bags are not only entertaining for your little ones, these simple to make, super versatile at home activity for kids make for great tools in child development. For me sensory bags were a life saver during tummy time when Emma was a baby. So besides being extremely versatile, they are also useful for different age stages.

Ok, ok, enough arguments on why sensory bags are so cool and reasons for my sensory bag addiction. Back to this amazing color mixing sensory bag! How cool is this! In Nicky’s own words “WHOAAA!”

These are a bit different from what I have shared in the past as these you need to do as a set. It is an amazing visual that lets you explain how two colors make another new color and be able to separate them once “mixed.” As mentioned, these are also great for the younger babies. The water plus glitter makes it really fun to splash around during baby tummy time.

MATERIALS:

  1. 3 gallon sized, freezer grade sealable plastic bags

  2. 2 cups of water per bag

  3. Red, yellow and blue food coloring

  4. Glitter

  5. Strong tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add 2 cups of water to each bag

  2. Add a few drops of food coloring to the bag. One color per bag.

  3. Seal the bag leaving little to no air inside. I stick the bag in a bowl of water and leave the seam out, this creates an easy vacuum seal.

  4. Tape the bag shut using very strong tape

  5. Layer one color on top of the other to make new colors.

Tip: Since this bag is water based, you could empty out the bag, wash it and leave it to dry. It is a great way to reuse it later for another sensory bag activity.
