8 FATHER'S DAY IDEAS FOR KIDS TO SHOW DAD HE'S APPRECIATED

Father’s Day is right around the corner! It’s a great time to recognize the hard work, love, and dedication of the dads in our lives. There are a lot of ways to celebrate fathers and you probably have your own gifts in mind but what about the kids?! One of the most heartfelt ways you can show your appreciation on Father’s Day is with creative gifts from your little one!

These gifts become mementos that you’ll keep for years! And, not only will the receiver appreciate the time and effort put in, but your kids will learn valuable character traits like gratitude, compassion, and generosity. If all that wasn’t enough, crafts are super good for your child’s development! That’s a win-win-win, if you didn’t notice.

But, what do you make? You don’t want your little ones presenting a scribbled on piece of paper you want your kids to learn that thoughtful gifts take time and effort. So, today I am sharing a round up of my favorite DIY Father’s Day gifts!

Many of these come from my Mothercould in Your Pocket resource, which is a HUGE collection of beneficial sensory activities that can keep your child engaged and learning all year long! It’s a one-time cost of $44, and then you have lifetime access to hundreds of kid-friendly activities and crafts.

But, before you dive into all the sensory play opportunities, let’s talk gifts for dad! Here are some handmade Father’s Day gifts your kids can make:

8 Father's Day Ideas for Kids to Show Dad He’s Appreciated

DIY Father’s Day Card

A handmade card is a timeless way for kids to express their love and appreciation. First, grab things like colorful paper, markers, stickers, and craft supplies. Kids can draw pictures, write heartfelt messages, and add personal touches that make the card special for their dad or grandpa.

This simple yet meaningful craft is sure to bring a smile to any father's face. And, what a great character-building thing for your kids to learn! Soon, they’ll be making cards for all the people in their lives they care about and develop a strong sense of gratitude and generosity.

Best Dad Ever Trophy

Every dad deserves a trophy, right? This Best Dad Ever Trophy activity is super fun, easy, and memorable. In this activity, your kids will create an award to present to their dad using various craft supplies! You can find the full directions on the Mothercould in Your Pocket resource within the Father’s Day Activity Pack! Their dad or father-figure will be able to display this special trophy, and it’s sure to bring a smile to their faces every time they see it.

Design a Tie for Dad

Let your kids showcase their artistic talents by designing a tie for Dad. Using the tie template made of paper from my Mothercould In Your Pocket resource, kids can trace patterns, fill it in with color, place stickers, write messages, and add decorations that reflect their dad’s favorite things! (or their own, since they’re kids.). Dad will love showing off this tie everywhere from the office to the next family dinner!

DIY Picture Frame

Here’s one of my favorite Father’s Day gift ideas. Help your children create a special frame to hold a favorite photo of them and their superhero dad (or grandpa or other father figure)! I recommend you let your kids pick the photo! Then, using craft sticks, paint, glue, and other craft supplies, children can assemble and design a personalized picture frame. Once you add the cherished photo, this DIY project becomes a heartwarming present that dads will treasure for years to come. It really is the perfect gift!

Coloring Page for Dad

Head to the Mothercould In Your Pocket resource for an adorable, printable Father’s Day-themed coloring page for an engaging and simple activity for kids of all ages! Kids can spend time coloring the picture while talking about the things they love about their dad. They can add their own flair with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. These finished masterpieces make for wonderful decorations or additions to Dad’s workspace! You could even frame it!

Handprint Grill Activity

For dads who love to grill, the handprint grill activity from my Mothercould In Your Pocket resource is a perfect choice. Use paint on your child's hand or trace their hand on the page to create a flaming grill. Then, cut out the design and give it to Dad! This adorable and creative artwork is a delightful nod to Dad’s culinary skills and makes for an adorable keepsake.

Father’s Day iSpy

Turn Father’s Day into a fun and interactive game with my fun Father's Day iSpy activity featured in my resource. I have created a sheet filled with images related to Father’s Day, such as bowties, trophies, grills, sports equipment, and more. Kids can enjoy finding and counting each item with their dad, grandpa, or other father figure! It’s the perfect way to give dad a memory on Father’s Day rather than a piece of art.

Father’s Day Activity Sheet

Kind and thoughtful words can honestly go so much farther than you’d think! (Yes, even with men!) With this activity from my resource, you can give kids a chance to express their love and appreciation with a Father's Day activity sheet. This includes a variety of engaging and thoughtful activities, such as:

  • My Dad Is So Good At: A section where kids write or draw things that their dad is good at, such as grilling, baseball, or making them smile.

  • A Picture of My Dad: A space where your child can glue or draw a picture of their dad.

  • I Love When My Dad: A section where kids can write about all the things they love that their dad does. This can be things such as cooking dinner, giving them a hug, or playing catch with them!

  • Something I Want to Do with My Dad: A space where your child can identify a range of activities they want to do with their kids. Perhaps they can choose some of these!

These activities encourage kids to reflect on their relationship with their father and articulate their feelings, making for a heartfelt and personalized gift that dads will cherish forever!
